Video game accessibility: Designer choices and consumer expectations in the age of online democracy

Today we are offered a wide range of video game software we have access to and can use. There is game development software all over the internet. To the Epic Games where you can get Unreal Engine to Steam's software page where you can obtain software such as RPG Maker MV, Blender.

Some video game software does cost though whereas the other software is free.

Free software: - Blender (All around modelling software with 2D and 3D elements.)

- Unity

- Unreal Engine

Paid software:

- Autodesk Maya (3D modelling software, although is free for students to use.)

- Substance Painter (Advanced texturing software for 3D assets)

Even though you can access the software, your computer might not meet the requirements to run certain software itself. In my case, I have a 16 GB Laptop. I'm able to use Substance Painter and Autodesk Maya simultaneously though there are times where it acts slowly due to tasks such as real-time rendering which can affect the computer's performance. The point I'm getting at here is that if you're using multiple software simultaneously, chances are the majority of RAM could be eaten up by one-three GPU sensitive software. It's best to use one software at once for smooth performance.

Some people go for the high-end computers for the best, smooth and consistent performances whereas other people go for the bare minimum spec ware. Where they can access their internet, write emails, type up documents, create spreadsheets and watch videos etc. These kinds of people will also seek out help.

In my experience as a part-time sales assistant for 4 and a half years, I've had experiences with customers based on what's best for them in terms of hardware and what they would use it for. Some go for the gaming side of hardware whereas others go for the casual side of hardware in regards to laptops and computers.

In terms of accessibility and demand, it all comes down to what the customers and participants needs are. This can range from games consoles to laptops to graphics tablets.
