In this blog, I will be talking about project development for 3D game engine assets which I will go over the requirements of designing 3D models.
3D game engine assets are one of the key components to 3D developments. Without 3D assets, is the game even 3D? You need 3D models and game engine assets to present your game!
So if you're looking to get into 3D game development what software and tools will you need. Firstly you will need modelling software such as Autodesk Maya, Blender, MudBox and ZBrush.
Then to texture your models you can use such as Adobe Photoshop (for normal and bump mapping textures) and Substance Painter.
Now to add in your 3D game assets and if you are creating a character model, firstly, make sure your models are rigged enough for them to have functional movements for animation. Secondly provide models animations (walking, jumping, crouching, flying, punching etc.)
If you're only creating just a 3D assets object, you only need to follow this process: modelling > UV-ing > texturing. The next thing to do is to implement the models in-game. Implementing 3D assets would require importing the models into game engines such as Unity, Unreal Engine. Once the models are imported into the game engine, they are treated as a 3D asset inside the game engine.
The next step for 3D assets when implemented into game engines is that they add functions prior to the coding inside the 3D asset.
