Advanced VFX - Camera Plates and preparation for filming.

Updated: Jan 21, 2022

In this blog, I will go over the process of what we did to prepare the film shoots in anticipation to create our VFX. Following on from the last blog, https://cade-mason.wixsite.com/website-1/post/advanced-vfx-practices-camera-onset-and-black-magic-viewfinder-workshop We had to re-recorded our camera plates again due to last time we used the Black Magic Camera over the shoulders and noticed that there were wobbles in the shot itself. To prevent this from happening again, we used a dolly track, we also needed to know what camera settings and measurements were used to record the second time. The reason why we needed camera settings is to know what settings we used for each shot and as for the measurements we needed to know the real life scale of measurements when we work in post-production (NukeX). We shot at the greenhouse, set up the shot and were ready to shoot. Everyone had their attempts when recording with the Black Magic camera. After shooting the camera plates for recording, we reviewed the clips of our camera plates to see which ones were the best and consistent camera plates to use when working in post. Some looked better than others, some clips wobbled compared to other clips. Now I wait for the Black Magic camera uploads on classroom. Once that's done I will begin to start working in post production.
