In this workshop we had to do the following things before recording onset:
- Location recce (taking photos of the location on where it willl be filmed at. As a group we took photos through the black magic viewfinder app (via phones) and shot multiple photos. (Well - at least I did but I dont know about everyone else.)
- Risk assessment: assessing the risks of the environment and area of the filming and moving tables, watching our steps on the uneven surface etc.
After doing those things, we placed down tracking markers. Ideally there are meant to be 16 tracking markers in a frame when recording. We placed tracking markers on the exterior and interior of the film location. A few of the tracking markers would be next to eachother as it was a way of placing our 3D asset when doing the tracking in Nuke.
Once that was done, we started recording with the black magic camera.
The first batch of filming was just to record the tracking markers and how we would pre-visualise the filming.
The second batch of filming was to implement the chrome and matte ball for light sources, shadows and reflections of the shot themselves. The chrome ball can come in handing if we were to create a Sky Dome light scene in Autodesk Maya.
The third batch of filming
These were the camera settings that were shot on the Black Magic camera:
Dynamic Range: Film
Frame Rate 25 FPS Average FPS for film
ISO: 200
White Balance: 5400k (K = Kelvin) this was shot just around the midday of filming so the Kelvin is appropriate.
Shutter angles:
1st film: 360 degrees
2nd film: (with equipment) 360 degrees
3rd film: 11.25 degrees (Lowest shutter angle settings we could get down to the reasons why this was done is because it was bright outside and it was distracting and confusing the shot itself.)
I also made a risk assessment in order to assess the risks that can occur when filming. Risk assessments are there to help and prevent the risks from occuring when walking around the area.
Here is my risk assessment:
A few days later, we received the camera plates from the Black Magic camera.
