Advanced Game Dev: A trip to EGX + Marketing at EGX

EGX is the biggest and most popular gaming convention in the United Kingdom. On the 08/10/2021, I went to EGX for a college trip visit to the ExCel Centre (where EGX is hosted). Personally speaking, this is my third visit to EGX and the first two visits were mostly just me playing game and trying out new games, browsing the stalls. Only this time however, I was tasked with the following:

I was given an EGX worksheet. I was to do the following:

  1. Talk to at least 5 different game developers and publishers.

  2. Identify color palettes of the game and what is my favorite amongst the color palettes

Speaking to industry professionals and game developers to talk about the marketing fundamentals.

These are the questions that were provided on the worksheet and the publisher and developers of the venue gave us their answers:

Tormented Souls. Color: The color palette used for this game shows dark and vibrant colors. The vibrant appears in the middle but dark colors surround the center of the image itself. This is what is called Discordance. X-Statement: Classic survival horror is back! Resident Evil + Alone in the Dark meets in a mystery fashion. Terraformers.

Color: The color palette used for the games poster has warm, vibrant and bright colors to it with some shadows in the making showing they have utilized the light source for the games poster. X-Statement: Sid Meier's Civilization goes to Mars. Create your own colony. Read Only Memories Neurodiver. Color: The color palette in the poster shows red and blue hues for the main characters on the poster. There is also hues of yellow and purple on the poster itself making it a composition to focus the center of attention to the two characters. X-Statement: Play as a detective and find the culprit in memories of other people. A Visual novel game with multiple endings. Mothmen 1966. Diluvian Winds.

Color: The color palette used for diluvian winds are warm and vibrant. X-Statement: Spiritfarer + Civilization meets Otters creating a civilization near the seas.
