The importance of collaboration in creative media production

Collaborating with a client through a charity or company can go a long way for both you and the client Outcome of collaboration. For the client they gain the attention they deserve through the following: - Fame - Popularity As for you, the person collaborating with the clients company. You can put in your CV that you collaborated with a client (be it a business, charity or company) in a CV. This will boost your chances into getting into work. You will also learn the importance's of collaborative with people and utilizing your creative mindset for a work environment.

In order to promote your collaborative campaign you will need a marketing team that can promote your campaign to others on social media. A prime example for the marketing team would be a public representative to market your campaign for. A PR (public relations or representatives) marketing team communicate to others "through real time messaging, social media etc. This amplifies a message, allowing the public relation to be potent and more impactful." (Bates, 2021) This makes the public representatives get closer to the public and connect them through words by conveying their ideas to them. Collaborative workflows in video games industry. In the video game industry, there a plenty of game developers that will collaborate with other media franchises. This can range from video games to TV shows to animations to even song writers. There are lot of variations and combinations to collaborate with. A prime example of a video game that collaborates with video game and different media franchises is Fortnite. Fortnite is one of the most popular and successful video games ever created with plenty of collaborations from other media franchises and brands under its belt. From franchises such as Batman, Marvel and Rick and Morty, Star Wars to brands such as Ninja, National Football League (NFL) and Travis Scott. Fortnite knows the importance of collaboration and getting across to different brands and franchises to gain and bolster the audience. Fortnite wants to reel in as many people and money as they can get. Another example for collaborations and crossovers is Nintendo's beat em' up game: Super Smash Bros. Super Smash Bros Collab's and crossovers with famous and iconic video game characters. Originally it was Nintendo characters but they started expanding into video game characters since Super Smash Bros brawl which gave us Sonic the Hedgehog from Sonic and Snake from Metal Gear Solid. Since then, the Super Smash Bros franchise has branched out to different video game franchises and ONLY video game franchises. They branched out to franchises such as Kingdom Hearts, Tekken, Elder Scrolls, Devil May Cry, Castlevania, Street Fighter, Mega Man etc. All of these range from characters to mii costumes, to stages and songs. The more video game franchises there are in a game, the better the chances there are in grabbing an audience of their favorite game series to play the respective crossover game that is Super Smash Bros. Super Smash Bros gets the concept of video game crossovers and executes them perfectly.

Studio-based and remote collaborations

There are benefits doing studio-based and remote collaborations for collaborative work. What is remote collaboration?

"Remote collaboration refers to the ability to engage as a team from anywhere in the world. Gone are the days of needing to work in the same physical space as your coworkers and superiors – with remote collaboration, you can truly be anywhere! This also applies to international corporations that require communication between teams separated by thousands of miles." (Collaborating Remotely – Why Remote Collaboration is Important - ViewSonic Library, 2021)

Working remotely is a way of working from home.

Benefits of remote collaboration When working remotely, remote workers and employees tend to be 'more productive' the reason for this is that there are "no commute, long hours, and annoying coworkers in the office" which leads to employees saving their money and earning more. Which prevents more stress on an employee and can lead to "improve their health and wellness." To reinforce my last statement "Remote workers are less likely to fall sick, as they don’t come into contact with as many germs and people as in-office employees." In terms of stress a statistic shows that "86% of remote workers feel that working remotely actually reduces stress" In a study, remote workers said they are either “not-stressed” or “moderately stressed” during the workday.

Therefore, this makes the work they have 'flexible' and employees have more money which "leads to happy employees". To prove my point about reduced costs and money saving methods from working at home the following companies were able to save x amounts of money to allow employees working remotely:

  • IBM saved $50 million in real estate costs by allowing employees to work remotely.

  • Aetna, a U.S. insurance giant, reduced 2.7 million square feet of office space and hence, saved $78 million by allowing remote working for their employees.

  • American Express declared annual savings of $10 million to $15 million after offering remote work options.

With flexibility comes productivity increase in remote work places. "A study asked 100 managers from 50 different businesses their experience with remote workers. Most of them reported improved productivity and less absent time." To prove my point a major telecom company; AT&T 'saved close to $150 million in extra hours of productivity.' Millennials currently are the largest and most sought-after generation of workers. 85% millennials prefer working from home all the time so if you want to attract them you must create an online work team. It’s not only millennials, but people of all ages also love the freedom, flexibility, and overall benefits of remote collaboration.

  • A survey showed the two biggest demands of recent graduates are work-life balance (67%) and a flexible work schedule (57%).

  • In another survey, 79% of employees said they would be more loyal to a business that provides flexibility. 32% also said that they have left a job because of the lack of flexibility.

  • 51% of employees in a survey said they would switch to a job that allows them flextime.

  • A study on women in the workplace found 53% of stay-at-home mothers said flexible hours or work schedules are a “major factor” in their ability to take a job. Did you know that 'Remote Work Benefits the Environment'?

  • Remote workers could reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 54 million tons every year. This is turn reduces the resources needed within the office, which means less paper, electricity, and heating!

  • Remote work further reduces gas consumption by more than $20 million. All in all - Working remotely benefits not only for health and stress but it also benefits things such as economy, climate and bills too. With the statistics provided it clearly shows that this benefits employees and employers well.

What is studio-based collaboration? Studio-based collaborations happen between multiple companies working together behind the scenes. Studio-based can happen between sponsorships, partnerships and co-brandings Here is a page I found about co-brandings: https://up-rev.com/13-examples-of-successful-co-branding-partnerships/ Famous people and their partnerships https://www.ceotodaymagazine.com/2018/11/the-top-5-co-founding-partnerships-and-their-stories/ What are the benefits for studio-based collaboration? Collaborating ideas with different studios provides variation in creativity. Studios can work together to collaborate and merge together their works into one collaborative project. In fact, a lot of studios tend to collaborate together by tackling an ambitious project. It could be a triple AAA video game or a hollywood blockbuster film. You will notice in the credits (especially films) will credit different studios and some companies from other countries. With studio-based collaborations, people can work at their own capacity and limit themselves with how much work they are capable of. That's where job roles come in.

Job roles are there to find peoples talents and expertise in a pipeline and production workflow. For example, if you are filming you will need a director, producer, camera operator etc. In some cases, other companies are hired and are used as part of the production stages and pipeline to contribute to film making and visual effects.
