Sound Design plays a vital role in film and TV. It can also play apart for VFX to act as atmosphere. Sound Design is also an important asset. It adds a dramatic atmosphere and adds a sense of immersion. The art of sound design Adding sound effects to your film brings it to life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eipTCsDkuf8 Sound design in video games I want to talk about sound design used in video games soundtracks and sound effects. Fallout 1 Metallic Monk
The "Metallic Monk" track is the theme for the "Brotherhood of Steel" faction in the Fallout series. What the Brotherhood of Steel look is what you see on the thumbnail. That is one of the many BoS armors in the franchise. The sound effects used in this track have sirens, ambience sound effects, radiation signals (due to the post-apocalyptic world the series is in). This nails the atmosphere that is Fallout 1 flawlessly. Dark Souls - Gwyn , Lord of Cinder - Dark Souls Soundtrack For a game called "Dark Souls" you would think there would be some dark, intimidating, intense sound effects for this track. However, Gwyn, Lord of Cinder is different in this case. The piano sound effect gives the atmosphere and vibe in this track implying that there is hope and in game lore, Gwyn fears the dark and there are no dark tones to the song itself.
Jet Set Radio - Sound effects in games The Legend of Zelda has iconic sound effects that your average gamer will recognise. Here are the iconic sound effects from the Zelda series: "Opening big or important treasure chest" sound effect:
"Zelda secret" sound effect:
The Sonic Ring pickup sound effect and Mario item pickup sound effect. They are the most iconic sound effects created in video games.
A sound design workshop. After discussing sound design, Leigh wanted us to do a workshop for sound design in itself in Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Audition (which Audition can be found under Premiere Pro). I downloaded a video through pexels, we were given a sound clip to use from google classroom. Then in the composition I dragged the videos and sound clip. I went into "file > export in adobe audition" and named the file as "SoundTest" and selected the "Entire Sequence". The reason why we did this is that we can work in other softwares rather than one. You can work with one software that links into the other. I adjusted the pitch of the Matthew_McConaughey soundclip under "effects > time and pitch > pitch shifter" I changed the Semi-tones to -5 to tell the difference. There is a change in the pitch. The reason I did this is when I get around to producing the sound for the game board TV advert.
Overall, sound has a vital role in film making, animation and games. It tells us the atmosphere that it is the scene is going for, therefore this creates a sense of immersion.
