Creative Industry - Production and Industry part 1 - Game industry timeline and evolution

This series of blogs will be used and assessed as research for the games industries.

I will be going over the history, timeline and the evolution of the game industry

In the year 1940, video games started with a "Westinghouse display at the World's Fair, Edward U. Condon designed a computer that plays the traditional game called: Nim in which players try to avoid picking up the last matchstick. Tens of thousands of people play Nim, and the computer wins at least 90% of the games." (Video Game History Timeline, 2020)

This would be the start of the history and timeline to video games. As developers, inventors made developments, investments to the technology to present the concept and purpose of "video games", video games were evolving to the point where humans would reach the era of television and home console games in 1968, "Ralph Baer patents his interactive television game. Four years later Magnavox releases Odyssey, the first home video game system, based on his designs." (Video Game History Timeline, 2020).

In the 1970s, marks a new era "the home console and coin-operated arcade games" (Video Game History Timeline, 2020), this decade saw the release for games such as Pong, Maze Wars, Space Invaders and the home consoles, Atari series and Intellivision.

In the 1980s, where this decade would see twist and turns. The majority of these occurrences of events came from today's well-known game company giant, Nintendo. Fun fact: Did you know that the character Mario was originally known as Jumpman? This saw decade also saw console the release of Nintendo Entertainment System with game titles such as Mario, Donkey Kong and The Legend of Zelda. The games that were released (outside of Nintendo) consisted of John Madden's Football, Tetris and Pac Man

In the 1990s would see a decade of a new console giant, the Playstation lead by one of the most popular media companies, Sony. And the revolutionary consoles such as the Sega Mega Drive, Genesis. A spark of controversy from the fighting game - Mortal Kombat
