3D Tools. Creative and 3D technical modelling project: Jetpack

Updated: Sep 6, 2019

In our Tuesday and Thursday lessons with Sam, we've worked on producing a Jetpack. What we did was we searched up 'Jetpacks' on Google. From there, I chose a Jetpack I wanted to model and replicate on. I chose the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Jetpack mainly because I love the design and whenever you uses the Jetpack it felt very rewarding. Moreover, GTA SA is one of my favourite games of all time.

Here's the Jetpack I replicated:

Afterwards, we then went onto Photoshop and used the brush tool to create points, from there we annotated the shapes that is used for the Jetpack. Here's my blueprint or intepretation sort of thing for the Jetpack:

(Ignore the "whatever that's supposed to be" it sounds lazy I know. I couldn't think what type of shape it was) Once I finished the photoshop task, I went into Autodesk Maya in order to create the Jetpack from a replicated standpoint. I had fun with it but also got frustrated at times. Again, this isn't something I should be frustrating about as Maya is something I've never done before (had minimal experience with Blender at the time but that's really it.) Here's the progress of making for the Jetpack. Be warned there's going to be a lot of pictures:

One problem I had going for this was the shapes. Originally I was going to use the cones, use the edge tool and cut the tipping part of the shape. Unfortunately, it didn't go as planned. So I came up with another idea: I used Cynlinders, scaled it about right and then tried to replicate the thing itself. More over I use the edge tool for the corners of the triangular shape. I used the edge tool and tried extruding it so I could the certain parts of the faces.

For the tools I used to produce the jetpack model I did: extruding (CTRL + E), scaling, beveling, camera quads (eagle view), edge tool and edge cutting. One of the main issues I've had with the jetpack was meeting the deadlines, unfortunately I wasn't able to submit my work onto weblearn over the half term due to the servers being down and I was told by a college friend that there was a virus on the weblearn website so I've had to avoid until I go back to college.
