Building a Successful VFX Workflow and Pipeline

Updated: May 25, 2020

Pipelines are essential and play a key factor in the industries. Today I will briefly go over the VFX pipelines and workflows.

VFX Pipeline:

Like with every other pipeline, VFX follows the 3 production stages: Pre Production > Production > Post Production

I made my own pipeline in photoshop to create my own pipeline by own design. With my technical knowledge of the pipeline I put things down such as filming, match move, 3D assets. I did have some assistance with Archie.

I made breakdown in photoshop and put together everything that happens in the pipeline

Here is a Youtube video I watched that went into VFX pipelines:

In a WIRED video (on Youtube), Visual Effects Producer; Jen Underdahl goes into a good depth and concise video about how the visual effects were made for Marvel's Avengers Endgame.

Thanos is rendered in CG. The way they did it was the modeled the character and took the design from the marvel comics. To get the motion and tracking captured in the film they used an actor to use a tracking suit. Josh Brolin took this role on himself and had the balls on the tracking suits. This would track all the pads and balls to create Thanos. This also applies the same to Mark Ruffalo who is the actor for Hulk.

If you want to watch the video feel free:

VFX Workflows:

VFX Workflows are perfect to get the feel, idea, composition, and images of the shots and film footage. Camera workflows use tracking pads, lighting, and a wide range of film shots. For the VFX workflows, 8 tracking pads need to be in each frame every time you're shooting a film. To maintain consistency and VFX shots. Much like the ones I and my group have been doing in our film production process. If one tracking pad were to go off, however, we would meet some sort of inconsistency
