(Show the footage of what you have done for video) (Show behind the scenes if possible) After the atrocities and ride for our presentations, our group needed a kick up in the backside. I was carrying too much on my shoulders, Eduard was happy doing his own thing and the other half of the team were on and off for work efficiency. I had tried to keep my team together (despite being my social skills being subpar). For the half term, we had to think about if we would continue on with the project or abandon it.
Seventh Week:
Having come back to college, me and our teammates started producing camera workflows to get the feel, the idea and the representation of how our VFX is presented. We filmed in the studio and one of the corridors in the media department. As a team, we all set up tracking points in the right perspectives. There needs to be AT LEAST 8 tracking points in every frame of the footage otherwise when tracking the footage it won't recognize the environment if there aren't 8 tracking points place.
We switched around roles I, Eduard and Aiden switched around with filming, Sebastian helped out with the sound equipment (i.e Shotgun Mic and Zoom Recorder) but mainly I and Eduard were the stunt people practicing the shots. With that being said here are a few test shots we did.
This video shows us a mug which is meant to represent a Rubik's cube.
Eighth week: In the eighth week is slow progress for the team. Half of our team has been shafted focus on the work experience game prototype which is what I, Eduard, and other classmates were working on. Aiden has been working on the animatics and footage and Sebastian has been working on creating the assets and props for the Space Station. Although Me, Aiden, and Eduard had been testing more camera shots. The reason we did this was that we found out that time stretching on a 50FPS shot was too fast.
I also created a test shot to get the feel of slow motion in the classroom to match the speed of gravity if we were to be in space. Using a DSLR camera on a tripod.
Film Test - Slow Motion Gravity
Had our procedures and plans weren't interrupted due to COVID-19, we would've presented our work the next week after the eighth week. That being said, here is the original production presentation we had worked on:
Ninth-Twelfth week: As our situation stands we had made some progress right up until the coronavirus situation. Unfortunately for our group it's become quite an impact on the team and knowing what we can do and what we can't do. The bad news is at the time our team couldn't progress forward much without the film and shooting workflows. We had managed to do a small amount before the whole outbreak and self-isolation happened although we didn't get far. Sam was giving tutorials for Aiden whilst I was working on the work experience games project. Having said this, the only tasks I've been able to do for the synoptic whilst working at home were installing Nuke and creating the production presentation when working with my teammates. So far I've had Aidens and Sebastians content. Eduard, on the other hand, I understand there wasn't really any from him because we were both working on the Technocide games project. As a team, our group members and teachers came together for a discussion on how we can bring our forward. What we're going to accomplish is that we'll have the VFX be recorded into 1st person perspective with matte paintings and CGI. I and Aiden will be working on matte paintings whereas Eduard and Sebastian will work on 3D CG shots for the POV of an astronaut. We will get ourselves a pre-built human model with rigs once we've done CG and matte paintings. Overall, as the Coronavirus had interrupted and change our work to a great degree, we still got back into gear the next couple of weeks after once we had discussed how to move forward and still get the project going. Furthermore, we changed the VFX synoptic more into an Animation syntopic with VFX elements blended in. In my next blog I will be showing the process of how I made my matte paintings in the post-production stages.
