Animation fundamentals and skills

Updated: Sep 6, 2019

Squash and Stretch: Squashing and Streching involves speed, momentum, weight and mass. In addition, it brings an object to life and giving the object personality, The softer an object is, the squishier it gets. Whereas the stiffer an object gets, the harder the object itself does. It can also apply to characters and faces. A good example of squash and strecthing are the exaggeration of a characters. E.G Facedrops.

Anticipation: Anticipation is when you add motion before the main one steps in to add more emphasis and building momentum and suspense to the characters actions. An example of anticipation is adding power to punch. Facial expressions tend to have anticipation.

Futhermore, you can add multiple levels of animation. Begin > anticipate > end. Beginning will prepare the object or character in a position, during the anticipate it builds and then concludes the pose for the end and then the end illustrates the action.

Staging:

The persentation of the idea is executed to be completely and unmistakably clear. It covers many things in animation. Acting, timing and camera angle and position and setting. By material can be covered by celluoid and acetate for traditional animation making layers of images by presentaton.

When animating you will need to be in full control in where the audiences are looking. Like, focusing on object with minimal occupation and foreground.

Straight ahead and pose to pose animation:

Pose to pose animation produces key poses for the characters and inbetween the frames making the character go from one pose to another.
